As any author will tell you, writing is hard – very hard. Writing an exordium, the definition of which is, “A beginning or introduction especially to a discourse or composition,” is almost as hard as writing a 200-page book. After the initial angst caused by the thought of summarizing my books in a few sentences, I breathed a resolute sigh and sat down at my computer. Then, I got up and paced the house because I went completely blank. Then, I prayed. You’d think I would have done that first-but no, once a slow learner…always one J. Low and behold, I wrote the exordium. With polishing by my wonderful publisher, here it is in final form:

We are in the darkest time of the year for Alaska. In Anchorage today, we have 5 hours and 48 minutes of daylight. So, as I sit here watching the snow start to fall, I am asking myself what I’d like to get done outside before night falls again. The answer? Today in an inside kind of day. Since my last blog post, I have finished my new novel, Ingress, and it has been published.

October in Alaska means winter is coming – now. This year, it also means that Costco has invited several authors from Publication Consultants to sign books at its Anchorage warehouses. The book-signing event begins October 6 and runs through October 16. My publisher, Publication Consultants has worked long and hard with Costco to make sure this event will be a success.

I can't think of anything less attractive than heavy equipment-well I could but wouldn't want to mention those mental pictures here. I have found that even something ugly can be attractive, especially for a mystery writer. I had the fun (yes fun) of riding on a loader and watching an excavator in action.
